George Barkey moved from Indiana and bought his own farm [80 acres] in Shepherd, Michigan in 1904. George farmed his father's land near Kendallville, Indiana for about three years prior to moving his family to Michigan.

George and Nellie lived in Shepherd, Michigan just south of Mt. Pleasant in 1904.
