General Notes:

SSN 196-07-5091

Bernard F. was born Boniface Francieczek Jan STRZELECKI but later changed his name to Bernard F. HUNTER. In the 1920 census, at the age of 17, Bernard F. is listed as son to the John Strzelecki family. In the 1930 census, however, Bernard F. is listed as head of his household under the name of HUNTER. He is listed with his wife Catharine and son, Bernard L. Hunter. It would appear that sometime between the 1920 and the 1930 census either the STRZELECKI family, or Bernard F. alone, underwent a name change.

Religion: Catholic. Attending Catholic Church in Reading, Pennsylvania

Bernard worked as a jewel merchant at one time. He also worked for the Pennsylvania Avenue Paper Company in Reading, Pennsylvania as a bookkeeper, and sold real estate while living in Detroit, Michigan. Through the Warten School of Economics (a correspondence school)  Bernard achieved his degree in accounting. Sons Bernard and Donald were still quite young.

Bernard worked in Philadelphia for the Marine Quarter Master Corporation in their accounting division. Catharine returned to Reading to be with her ailing mother. Their son, Bernard, returned to Reading with her.

After his wife, Catherine, died, Bernard and his sons returned to his mother's farm in Romulus, Michigan. The farm was located on Wayne Road and Wick Road. The farm has since been torn down.

While in Romulus Bernard was Chief Auditor for the Navel Defense Contracts. In retirement he was called upon by the U.S. Military Department to set up Libya's monetary system. Bernard headed this project.

In his later years Bernard lived on the West coast -  first in California, then settling in Port Orchard, Washington with his son Donald. He remained there until his death in 1993. He was 90 years old.
