STRZELECKI LETTER FROM WARSAW, POLAND

BIRTH CERTIFICATE AND MARRIAGE LICENSE

(Click on documents for larger view)

The above letter and envelope came from Warsaw Poland addressed to Jan Strzelecki (name changed to Hunter either upon immigrating from Poland or sometime thereafter). We think the letter is from Jan's mother. The letter is not legible. A Polish woman translated the letter for us. She said it was difficult to do because the letter is written in what she called 'old Polish'.  The following is her translation:

Dearest,

Wrote to you a couple of letters, never received an answer. Don't know what happened to you. Want to know if you died. Can't write to your sister, don't have an address. I am worried about you. Did everybody die? Mother writes so you can write a few words. Branska never got a letter. Don't have a letter from Frank, don't know what happened to him, maybe dead. I am worried about him. Write me how Gasowi now is. Your daughter writes me everything. Forgive me that I am writing. I always write but it is so hard for you to write a couple of words. I am asking you to write me about America. Are you going to come from America? Why so hard to write a couple of words? Cuffsca was in America, came back. Dear children, please write to me. Mother and Father were ill. Ending this letter wishing you all good
