NOTE: During the battle around the Weldon Railroad, Globe Tavern and Six-mile House on August 18 and 19, 1864, the majority of the 190th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Regiment was cut-off from the main Union force and captured. Its' sister regiment, the 191st Infantry Regiment, suffered the same fate. So few officers and men of either regiment escaped capture that the survivors were combined into a single provisional regiment for the remainder of the war. Even though combined into one regiment, the 190th and the 191st retained their identity as individual regiments. This undoubtedly accounts for the immense confusion of the records which do remain from these two units. No complete roster for any company of either regiment is known to exist. Reference: J. D.
